SUPPORT A CHILD TODAY!

Programs/Services

The decision to be born into this world is not determined by children. As such, children do not deserve to suffer due to the misfortunes of their parents. Every child has the right to shelter as well as sufficient food, water and clothing at a minimum. It is important for the current leaders of the world to recognize that each child represents a future; the future of the community, the country, and indeed the future of the whole world.

Program interventions will be developed based on the specific situations of participants. This will enable us respond to the needs of participants with relevant interventions while making effective use of our available resources. The use of interventions or programs that will help participants develop to their full potential will result in maximum positive impact on the society.

To successfully support less-privileged children, CEFAC is committed to working with other non-profit organizations to administer the following services:

 Provision of Food and Clean Water
One of the primary goals of the foundation is to ensure that children around the country have access to clean food and water. To effectively reduce hunger in Ghana, the inhabitants need access to clean water. A reliable source of water can help people grow, prepare and preserve food. Water is not only required for planting; It is a basic necessity that helps human beings maintain good hygiene. The CEFAC foundation will support organizations that  - Deliver meals to the poor - Develop irrigation systems CEFAC will educate families on how to use available resources to obtain sufficient food and water.

 Provision of Clothes
CEFAC will make it a duty to develop several avenues to inform individuals about ways to donate clothing to charities and the rewards that can be obtained from donations. The United States for instance, offers tax deductions to individuals who donate new/gently used clothes to charity. A more important benefit to people however is their ability to use items which are of little or no use to them to put a smile on the faces of children in need.  Clothes will be collected from different churches, stores, schools and other communities/ associations and distributed to orphanages, homeless shelters and people who qualify for care under the CEFAC Program.

 Distribution of Educational Materials
Academia is not gender-specific! It should also not be privy to only a subsection of the Ghanaian population. Education is an integral part of any country; developed, developing or under-developed. A society without education will become the breeding ground for intolerance and violence. Providing educational opportunities to less-privileged children will enhance their intellectual ability and help them become contributing members of society.  The CEFAC Foundation will work with other agencies to provide children with uniforms, shoes, stationery, textbooks and storybooks to help them excel in their studies.

 Leadership Seminars
When people come from families with low resources they may tend to give-up or feel unworthy to rise above a certain level. CEFAC will hold seminars where current leaders of society will present examples of the positive outcomes of hard work and determination. The foundation will use real-life examples to help participants recognize that they are equal members of society regardless of their backgrounds. These programs will be structured to instill perseverance and self- confidence in participants and empower them to become future leaders.

 Recreational Events
The CEFAC Foundation believes in balancing work and fun. Exciting, adventurous and intellectual games are a great way to build a sense of camaraderie, trust and team spirit. The Foundation will host events such as seasonal camps, excursions, spelling bees and sports competitions to name a few. These events will focus on helping particpants build friendships outside their normal surroundings and foster an appreciation for ethnic and cultural diversity. These sporting and intellectual games will also be geared towards providing opportunities that will help participants develop their physical and psychomotor skills.

 Medical Care and Social Services
Primary health care is essential for all people; rich or poor. CEFAC will work with existing non-profit organizations and the Ghana Ministry of Health to provide primary health care in a timely and effective manner. One objective of the Foundation is to ensure that health services are readily available and accessible to children from low socioeconomic communities by bringing health services in the form of vaccinations, screenings, primary prevention educational materials, etc. into their communities. Thus, creating a multiplier effect and ensuring the survival of the children, their families, and the people in their communities. CEFAC will also conduct awareness programs and workshops that will address demographic and environmental risk factors; infectious diseases; poor sanitation; contaminated drinking water; and other health issues facing women and children in Ghana. To gain a better understanding of the needs of the children and the communities being served, CEFAC will work collaboratively with the Ghana Ministry of Health Epidemiology team to assess the strengths and needs of individuals, conduct community health surveillance, and utilize health behavioral change models to implement a sustainable curriculum.

 Provision of Shelter
The foundation will collaborate with the government to place people with deteriorating living conditions into facilities with acceptable standards of living. CEFAC could also partner with other global governing bodies that are aggressively working towards the eradication of poverty.

 Award Merit-based Scholarships
CEFAC will provide merit-based/ academic scholarships to less privileged children in Ghana, not only based on their academic performance, but also for displaying artistic or athletic excellence or a combination thereof. The Foundation will primarily coordinate with elementary and junior- high schools to recruit students into the scholarship program. CEFAC will establish an endowment fund specifically for children who express financial need and meet the grade-point average of the scholarship program.

 Establishment of Internship Opportunities
A participant of the CEFAC program will have access to certain internships during his/her collegiate career. The foundation will partner with companies in different industries to help give brilliant students the opportunity to practice what they learn in college.

 Set Up Graduates with Potential Employers
University students go through 4 or more years of education only to be underemployed or unemployed post-graduation. The average graduate may have to go through various means to secure an entry level position in his/her area of study. Due to this reason, people diverge from their careers of interest. They pursue job that will pay the bills. Ghana promotes education however does not present graduates with opportunities to become professionals in their fields of study. CEFAC will set up job fairs to help companies get in contact with under-privileged yet brilliant students.

  Develop Vocational Workshops
A vocational education teaches practical job training in a hands-on environment that is typically not in a classroom. CEFAC will offer a variety of vocational programs which will enable participants develop specific sets of skills that can be applied to their future careers. Learning how to work with available resources may create employment opportunities for participants therefore enabling them to be self-sufficient.

 Creation of Child-Sponsorship Program
The CEFAC Program will allow individual/organizations to sponsor/ fund under-privileged children in a Ghana until the child becomes independent. CEFAC will use the financial support from received from these individuals/organizations to ensure that participants receive the appropriate health care, education, basic necessities and security. Funds from the program could also be used to contribute more widely to the development of communities of participants who have been sponsored.

 Cultural Learning Programs
By partnering with other non-profit organizations, CEFAC will establish a student exchange program where students from a secondary school or university will be given the opportunity to
o Study abroad at one of their foundation's partner institutions or
o Study in a region in Ghana that the participant is not familiar with

These exchange programs will promote sharing of history, culture and traditions and may provide employment opportunities.

 Establishment of CEFAC Academies
A major goal of the CEFAC foundation is to create a community where all children co-exist as equals regardless of their backgrounds. Our vision is to overcome social inequality by bridging the gap between the privileged and less-privileged.  CEFAC will establish academies which will consist of a village and a school. Orphans will live with their biological or foster families in the villages and attend private school. The private school will have paying and non-paying students. A portion of the tuition of paying students will be used to supplement the tuition of non-paying students as agreed upon by paying parents.

The foundation will also provide foster parents with vocational opportunities to help them support themselves and contribute to society. The school will offer quality education which will be measured by how much and how well children learn and the extent to which their education translates into a range of personal, social and developmental benefits. CEFAC will provide a balance of different subjects such as math, language, social sciences, education, cultural studies, science and physical education. The academic program will ensure that sufficient time is spent on instructions as well as application. Cooperative learning and the development of critical thinking and problem-solving skills will also be incorporated into studies. CEFAC will ensure that a balance is struck between enabling students to use local and global languages in learning. Regular, reliable, and timely assessment will be used to provide feedback to students and improve learning and teaching practices.
